Job Description

Employees in this position perform a full range of treatment services under the general direction of department supervisor. The professional work includes behavioral health counseling with a primary focus on substance use disorders.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Community or Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy.

Minimum of one year professional experience or internship (two semesters) in substance use and/or behavioral health counseling.

Must possess valid State of Ohio license as an Independent Clinical Counselor, Independent Social Worker, Independent Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Current valid Ohio driver’s license, automobile availability and insurance coverage.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a normal office. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxins or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Licensing/Certification

P3 Class $27.32 – $33.67 per hour

Description of Job Duty

The alcohol and drug counselor 2 must possess addiction and treatment knowledge, which includes, but is not limited to knowledge of evidenced based models of treatment modalities, recovery and 12 step principles, relapse prevention and continuing care for addiction for clients. The counselor will have the knowledge and skill set to complete psycho-social assessments, crisis intervention, progress notes, urinalysis screenings, case management, individual and group counseling. Counselor will assist the client with treatment planning which will develop holistic intervention goals and objectives designed to give education and increase client’s level of functioning. Counselor maintains necessary documentation to satisfy mandates of federal, state and local entities. Counselor will serve on program development teams, complete outcome studies to estimate treatment effectiveness, attends trainings, departmental meetings and court hearings, as required. Maintains a working relationship with other facilities and agencies for continuity of care. Counselor must possess organizational, communication and customer service skills. Performs other duties as assigned. May require evening and weekend work
