Job Description

Supervisors are responsible for training, advising, and supervising program coordinators, alcohol/drug counselors and prevention specialists; providing specialized expertise in assigned programmatic areas.

Required Qualifications

This position requires a master’s degree in community or mental health counseling, social work. Must possess independent license in counseling or social work with supervisory endorsement. Minimum of three to five years’ work experience supervising and/or managing alcohol/drug programs. Familiarity with OhioMHAS certification standards and program guidelines for behavioral health services. Ability to implement, oversee and manage multiple programs. Ability to implement quality assurances measures to determine program effectiveness.

• Valid driver’s license, liability insurance, automobile available.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of community stakeholders and to respond to external demands and pressures.
Attend professional meetings and participate in community initiatives as needed. Attend meetings as needed for required continuing education credits.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a normal office. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxins or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

• Salary Range: P5 ($33.64/hr. – $40.37/hr.)

Description of Job Duty

• Supervise program coordinators, alcohol/drug counselors, prevention specialists, and support staff.
• Coordinate activities of the programs being supervised.
• Assure that staff members are adequately trained.
• Mentor staff with their professional development.
• Provide training and technical advice to other alcohol/drug counselors and prevention specialists. Promote uniformity in the implementation of agency policies and procedures.
• Attend professional meetings for required continuing education credits.
• Participate in the budget review and formation. Know how to calculate program cost methodologies.
• Ensure compliance with the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services Board contract.
• Supervise staff and programs in accordance with appropriate standards as outlined in the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Standard (ODADAS).
• Perform job duties under the regulations, policies and procedures, and standing orders set forth by Summit County Combined General Health District and outside agencies such as the County Fiscal Officer, Ohio Department of Health, and state and federal government.
• May participate in Medicaid Administrative Activities such as referral, enrollment, monitoring, and coordination of services, etc.
• Participate in community or county based organizations.
• Attend county, city, village and/or township governance meetings or committees.
• Attend training programs to improve knowledge used in programs.
• Seek out projects and grant funding sources for which to apply with the assistance of supervisor. May be required to manage grant funded program.
• Participate in student orientation and field experience.
• Perform any other duties as required for the efficient operation of the Summit County Combined General Health District.
• Maintain cooperative working relationships among public and agency participants.
• Employee has the obligation, set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, and will be available for emergency service during routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24/7/365 availability.
